If Unfamiliar with Online Searching
Learn how to use search engines such as Gooogle, Bing, Yahoo or others by searching “using search engines”.  Results will include multiple instructions for how to research online.

A search engine does not have search boundaries.  A search will be performed regardless of which letters, numbers, and characters are selected from the keyboard.  A search is not limited by its length or the combination of characters entered.  A search will likely still function if words are misspelled.  Especially in searches with multiple words. For example, if a search is performed with spellings: urope, europe/, *europ8, yourope, if you continue scanning the results, there will still be ones related to Europe.

Don’t be concerned about making mistakes while searching.  Be Brave about it.  You are not limited by the number of searches.  It costs nothing to do dozens of searches in ten minutes. Keep trying different words and approaches to find what you are seeking online.

You can search for anything available online.  However online activity and searches are monitored to a degree.  Refrain from searching for information that may identify you as a person likely to commit a crime or harm other people.

How to Search for Specific Statutes
Access the Wisconsin constitution and legislation at docs.legis.wisconsin.gov or find specific statutes using the search engine techniques described below.

Search for Statutes Using Search Bar
Type wis stat in a search bar followed by a phrase related to the Statute of interest.  Such as wis stat stole a candy bar.  

Amongst the results will be multiple Statutes including:

943.50 Retail theft; theft of services
943.51 Retail theft; civil liability
943.20 Theft
and a case law State v. Hagen :: 1971

Wisconsin Legislation  –  Table of Contents
Wisconsin legislation includes more than 950 chapters of statutes.  Search online “wisconsin statutes table of contents”.  The Table of Contents shows numbered chapter titles containing groups of related Statutes.  Select a Chapter of interest so see the statutes within it listed for further selection.  Select a statute to view its contents.  

When viewing the Chapter contents, atop the Chapter is a list of individual Statutes it contains.  All Statutes are below that upper list that acts as links.  Clicking on a Statute in the list will migrate your view to that Statute below.

Federal Docs & Codes Online
In a search bar type “federal code” followed by a word or phrase related to a Code you are attempting to locate.  Such as “federal code assault”.  

Results include:
Assault 18 U.S.C. 351
18 U.S. Code Chapter 7 Part I – Assault
18 U.S.C. 111 Federal Assault on Law Enforcement
